Semester: First Semester
Level: 500
Year: 2014
ACADEMIC YEAR 2014-2015 – Semester1
Lecturer: SP TCHASSO
CSC513: Automation and Industrial computerized Instrumentation Time: 2hrs
Exercise 1:
1- Define the followings terms and expressions: sensor, industrial instrumentation, oscilloscope, logic
sensor, physical quantity
2- Name the characteristics of an oscilloscope
3- Name 05 virtual instruments that you can find in PROTEUS
4- Draw and briefly explain the block diagram of an acquisition chain
5- Compare a passive sensor and an active sensor
6- propose a conditioning circuit for a passive sensor and an active sensor, and explain it functioning:
7- Give 02 advantages of using operational amplifiers in some conditioning circuits
8- Give 05 reason for which conditioning circuits are needed in acquisition chains
9- An Analogue to Digital Converter has a resolution of 10 bits and it dynamic range is [0 , 5V]; calculate
the digital values corresponding to the following voltages: 100mV , 2.5V, 3.75V, 5V
10- Name 05 ports on a PC that can be used for data acquisition
Exercise2
Consider the diagram of figure1. U1 is a temperature sensor. It delivers a voltage at it output
1- Establish a link between the differents blocks of the diagram and the one of an acquisition chain
2- In which cathegory can you put the sensors of the diagram? Justify
3- Propose a conditionning circuit for U1 if we assume that it output is not high enough
Exercise3
Consider the following diagram
1- Identify, name and explain the functioning of the sensor of the diagram
2- Which type of conditioning is used for the sensor? Justify
3- Find the expression of the voltage across the sensor
4- Deduce about the general functioning of the diagram
