Question 1:

c) A business man sells three types of papers; the Echo, the Mail and the Adviser. 70 customers by the
Echo, 60 buy the Mail and 50 buy the Adviser. 17 buy both the Echo and the Mail, 15 buys both the
Mail and the Adviser, 16 buy both the Adviser and the echo while 3 customers buy all the three
papers. How many customers have the businessman? (10 marks)
Question 2:
a) If -5, P, Q, 16 are in an A.P, find P and Q. (5 marks)
b) If X, Y and Z are in a G.P, prove that log X, log Y and log Z are in the A.P. (10 marks)
c) Find the geometric mean of the three series X, Y and Z. (5 marks)
Question 3: Given the demand and the supply function as Qd = 20 -1/5P; Qs = -36 + 2/3P
You are required to find:
i. The equilibrium price and quantities. (5 marks)
ii. The excess supply when the price is 70FRS. (5 marks)
iii. The excess demand when the price is 30FRS. (5 marks)
iv. If he government imposes a tax of 10Frs on the good in question, how would the tax be shared by the
producer and the consumers of the product? (5 marks)
Question 4:
a) On the 10

of January 2016, Prof. Sikod burrowed 120,000,000frs from a micro financial institution
at the rate of 12.8% per annum. What extra charge will he be entitled to on the 25

when he finally pays the money? (5 marks)
b) After how long will a principal of 80,000frs yield 400,000frs if it was invested at a fixed interest rate
of 10% per annum if;
i. Compounding is done weekly. (3 marks)
ii. Compounding is done continuously. (2 marks)
