Exercise 1: (09 marks)
A committee of five is chosen by drawing lots front a group of eight women. Determine the probability
that the committee contain exactly thee men.
Exercise2: (09 marks')
A notorious gang of outlaws contains five, gunfighters, Smith, four called Jones and one called Cassidy.
In a gunfight, three of the gang are killed. Assuming that each gun fighter had the same probability of
being killed, what is the probability that the three killed in the gunfight all had different names?
Exercise 3: (10 marks)
The random variable X can only take the values 2 and 5. Given that the value 5is twice as likely as the
value 2, determine the expectation of X.
Exercise 4: (07 marks)
Determine the expectation of the random variable X, which has probability distribution given below
Value of X 0 1 2 3
Probability 0.3 0.4 0.2 0.3
Part II: (35 marks) Lecturer: Dr Dobdinga C.F
Question one . (10 marks)
A crime has just been committed leading two the arrest of two individual .After the court Judgement. the

Explain the two types of statistical; errors involved in-the-judgement
Question two (15 marks)
The marks of 10 students in the 2015/2016 statistics tests are distributed, as:23; l8; 17; 20; 25; 19; 17;
24; 2b; 22. Based on the. results of previous years the average mark earned is SO: Use a 5% level of
significance to verify whether in 2015/2016 the students performed better than in the previous years. (CV
= 1.83)
Question three (10 marks)
a) List and explain three properties of estimators
b) Two distances are measured with means given as 27.3m and(15.6m with standard deviation of 0.16.
arid 0.08 respectively. Determine, the mean and standard deviation the difference in the two statistics.
