Exercise 2 (12Pts)
You are the Maintenance agent in charge of the electrical department at the Bamenda Wood
transformation company. This company principally deals in the transformation of logs of
wood into planks and boards. The company comprises 5 planning machines equipped with
heavy duty threephase asynchronous motors, a boiler, lighting system, bells, alarms, air
conditioners, blowers etc. During your Monday routine meetings, Mr. Sama a technician
reported that the temperatures and pressures of the boiler taken that morning were beyond
normal. The cutting machine that was overheating due to misalignment with the pulley was
repaired by Mr. Tambi and Mr. Peter another technician reported that the entire lighting
system was faulty due to lightning discharge on Sunday. He noticed that the blower keeps
humming, the designing machine keeps tripping off each time it is turned on. Just in time the
cleaner is reported to have been electrocuted after touching the surface (body) of the cutting
machine during cleaning.
Questions
1.
Give the levels of maintenance carried out by Mr. Sama and Mr. Tambi.

Give TWO possible causes of the fault mentioned by Mr. Peter and how it could have been
avoided.

What should be the cause(s)of the blower humming and how will you repair such fault?
