Question One (20marks)
Account for why operations research should be taught to those trained as teachers for the
secondary and higher schools in Cameroon even though it is not among the courses they
are expected to teach while exercising their professional functions.
Question Two (l0marks)
Models are very instrumental in the understanding of operations research. With the aid of
any five models justify their relevant to the subject matter
Question Three (l0marks)
Operations Research uses the scientific method to find solutions or answers to the
complex problems facing business executives, economists, industrialists, government
and military commanders among others. Validate comprehensively the above statement.
Question Four (l0marks)
Consider the Leonid Hurwicz criterion under the condition that the coefficient of
optimism is 0.7, as presented on

From table 1.1 identify the strategy/alternative under the various business conditions, the
maximum and minimum pay-offs.
Question Five (20marks)
A company has a capacity to produce three products known as Rice, millo and
Semongvita The products yield contributions of 8, 5 and 10 respectively. The products
use a machine which has 400hours capacity in the next period. Each unit of the products
uses 2, 3 and 1 hour respectively of the machines capacity. There are only 150 units
available in the period of a special component which is used simply in the production of
Rice and Semongvita. 200kg only of a special alloy is available in the period. Rice uses
2kg per unit and Semongvita uses 4kg per unit. There is an agreement with a trade
association to produce not more than 50 units of Millo in the period. You are required to:
i) Identify the decision variables; ii) Formulate the linear programming problem; iii)
Formulate the dual of the linear programming problem; iv) Present the information in a
Simplex Tableau;
v) Solve the linear programming complete, and explain the meaning of the values
obtained for the slacks and the meaning of shadow prices
